How it Works
After extractions, it takes a bit of time for the gums to heal. An immediate denture helps you feel comfortable with your appearance and assists with healing by acting as a “bandage” to help control bleeding and minimize discomfort when the swelling subsides.
During healing, which can take several months, it is common for the gum tissue to change and shrink. These changes often result in space between the gum tissue and the denture. Over time, the immediate denture may not fit as well as it did when first inserted. The dentist may recommend relines to adjust the fit of the denture while your gums continue to heal.
When the dentist determines the healing of your gums is satisfactory, a new, permanent denture will be created for you!
